Highways related issues:

The Parish Council is working with HCC and the Highways to update the Road Traffic Order so HGVs cannot drive through Flamstead as currently they are permitted to do.  Unsuitable for HGV signs are in place which do deter some vehicles, but sat navs show the route is permissible although in places large lorries cannot get through and cause damage attempting to do so.  The link here has the Road Traffic Order of 1984 which explains the excluded routes.  The ones which affect Flamstead are highlighted in pink and blue.  The RTO also makes it clear that HGVs eg farm vehicles are permitted where Flamstead is the destination.

Bus Services:

Flamstead’s bus services are constantly under threat from low usage (not helped by the pandemic).  The Red Eagle bus company is now providing some of the routes as arranged by Herts County Council.

Current services are: from  Dunstable via Redbourn to St Albans, and between Luton and  Hemel Hempstead.  There is also a Harpenden school bus which operates once a day in each direction. (The 34, 46, 646 and 647). More details can be found on the Red Eagle and Uno Websites or by using the Intalink (Hertfordshire travel)

The proximity to Luton Airport means that taxi services/Ubers are easy to come by.
